NIC issues Terms of Reference for Info Officers
Kathmandu, Jan 5:
The National Information Commission (NIC) has issued a Directive on Terms of Reference of the Information Officers-2073.

Making public the directive, Minister for Information and Communications, Surendra Kumar Karki, said the information officers were playing important role to link people to the government and inform public about government activities.
"Knowledge and information empowers people.

So, the government plans to develop postal services as information centres. Such information centres would be placed at every village unit where people would get all sorts of information." On the occasion, Chief Information Commissioner at NIC, Krishna Hari Baskota, said the directive was issued to facilitate the information officers to provide information to the public.

The directive has made clear provisions on duties, rights and responsibilities of information officers. The IOs are urged to provide information freely upon the direction of the NIC, practice self-disclosure every three month, maintain separate record of information seeking registrations and others.

Information Commissioners Kiran Pokhrel and Yashoda Timsina said the directive was issued in response to the complaint that many information officers themselves are not provided all information of their offices. NIC Secretary Sharad Raj Bista said the directive would help empower information officers. (Photo available) RSS
